AMAR #1037 Second Day of the Provincial Chapter – INB!

The Chapter members enthusiastically awakened to the second day of the Provincial Chapter with the theme ‘Communities living the style of synodality’. The day began in a silent, still contemplation guided by Sr. Magdeline Sequeira.

The sessions of the day started with a prayer moment animated by Sr. Meena Fernandes, which was followed by the reading out of the minutes of the proceedings of the previous day by Sr. Supriya Noronha.

Sr. Ritha Dora Thomas, the Provincial then presented the 6-year detailed report on the life of the Province since the last General Chapter which was held in the year 2014. After this, Sr. Rita Lobo the moderator introduced the working document to the gathering and the commissions got together in their respective spaces for their discussion.

The Eucharistic celebration began with the symbolic offering of the challenges we face in our province in family, in taking risks, in responding to responsibility, in accompaniment, in the Eucharist, and in family life. The celebrant for the day, Fr. Savio Silveira SDB, the Provincial of the Mumbai Province, in his homily directed us towards three focus points to be relevant today:

  • Don’t just look at where the world has reached but where it is going
  • Don’t just respond to the symptoms, but to the cause
  • Don’t just propose change, lead the change

The afternoon session was headed by Mr. George Remedios, founder of ‘The Turning Tide’. He introduced us to the Food Forest Project, as long term projects, to help the ecosystem to get back its natural carbon-absorbing capacity while involving the young and society at large. He also tried to emphasize the danger posed by the use of plastic and how we need to imbibe a zero-waste culture in order to help ourselves and help the environment for the future.

The committees then met again to finalise their work for the day. This was followed by the first General Assembly, during which questions one and two were discussed by the moderators Sr. Philomena D’Souza and Sr. Teresa Joseph respectively.

After a creative photo presentation of the day’s events, we assembled for the Good Night which  was shared by Sr. Meenakshi D’Silva who spoke on the Revised National Education Policy and Sr. Sheela Furtado who shared the Youth Pastoral theme of the FMA PCI,  ‘Together we can’ (a project to live “Laudato Si) held at Katpadi, Chennai.
