AMAR # 611 ASC WORLD CONGRESS in Rome

The Association of Salesian Co-operators held their Vth World Congress at the tranquil and enchanting “Fraterna Domus” in Rome from Oct. 25 – 28, 2018. There were more than 330 representatives from 66 countries from all the continents, including 24 of us from India.

The theme of the Congress was, “Salesian Cooperators, called to be co-responsible to respond to the new challenges of the world”.

The whole event was well communicated through live streaming with key parts in simultaneous translation in 5 languages, which facilitated better participation.

Through the group and regional workshops the Congress delegates discerned and approved the “Lines of Action and Dreams of the ASC for next 6 years, 2019-2024” along the following scheme in synergy with the 2018 Synod of Bishop final document:

  1. Challenge: Vulnerable and marginalized youth & family crisis.
  2. Dream: To become credible witnesses.
  3. Factors: Communion, Fraternity, Mission – Vocation proposal for the young – Integral Formation with the Salesian Family – Autonomy: to growth in shared responsibility.
  4. Values: Charismatic fidelity, family spirit, sense of belonging and commitment
  5. Processes of conversion:

Foster a deeper spirituality to know the young through the listening and accompaniment.

Internalise the PAL (Project of Apostolic Life) in the light of the Gospel light for ongoing discernment of our life and mission.

Become a point of reference for outreach toward youth in need.

Leave our comfort zone to be credible and dynamic witnesses toward youth in need.

The newly appointed World Co-ordinator, Mr. Antonio Boccia, from Naples – Italy, was given a hearty welcome.

Each delegate received an updated World Directory with the 30,000 names of all members.

The cheerful presence of our Rector Major, Mother General and Councillor General for Salesian Family Sr. Maria Luisa Miranda was an encouragement. It was a time of sharing, discernment and looking to the future. Of course, a time to get to know each other, creative prayer moments, and the joy of togetherness… typically Salesian!
