St. Joseph Vaz, rightly called the ‘Pearl of Goa’ is the first Goan saint. In his honour, most of the Catholic schools are given a holiday on his feast day, the 16th of January. Here at Auxilium Caranzalem, we celebrated his feast along with the staff and students on the 15th. A frame bearing his image was beautifully decorated and kept in a prominent place. We had a prayer service at the morning assembly, venerating his virtues and praying through his intercession. A scene from his life was enacted and various incidents of his life were shared by sisters and teachers. In the evening, the sisters went on a pilgrimage to Sancoale, the place where he was brought up.
