AMAR # 1177 'Say No to Rape' at Auxilium Caranzalem!

In today’s modern world, we see that women have advanced in all spheres of life. But sad to say, abuse against women in the form of trafficking, domestic violence, abuse and rapes are on the rise. Who is to be blamed? A beautiful caption at a demonstration read, “Real men don’t rape”.

In order to bring about awareness of the sad plight of many women and girls in the country and more especially to drive home the message on ‘Equality and respect’ for all, irrespective of gender, caste, age, and religion, we at Auxilium Caranzalem had a special programme in school. At the morning assembly, we had a prayer service praying for the grace to understand our role in building a safe and healthy society, where we learn to treat everyone with dignity and respect. The service was animated by the boys. Some of them also held banners with slogans like ‘She’s my mother’, ‘She deserves my respect’, ‘Real men don’t rape’, ‘We are equal’, ‘She’s not an object’, ‘Why should girls fear?’, ‘Why isn’t India safe?’, ‘Say NO to rape’, etc

A teacher enacted a monologue, playing the role of Nirbhaya who has come back to life to speak for the many girls and women who are abused today and to tell all boys and men that they ought to respect women. Some of the students of Std X staged a one-act play driving home the message on creating a safe society.

On the 19th of December, Goa Liberation Day, Sr. Melissa D’Souza, Tr, Siddhi Parab and 10 boys from Std X participated in a demonstration staged on the Immaculate Church stairs in Panjim. This demonstration was a protest against rape and violence against women. Women from different NGO’s and students from different schools were present. Our teacher once again enacted the role of Nirbhaya and the boys surrounded her with different slogans.
