AMAR # 1271 Teachers' Day at Auxilium Baroda!

Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam once said, “Teaching is a very noble profession that shapes the character, caliber and future of an individual. If people remember me as a good teacher that will be the biggest honour for me.”

One of the many red letter days marked in our school calendar is the 5th of September – Teachers’ Day. It is a day of excitement and thrill as students honour their teachers through prayers, songs and dances. This corona pandemic seems to have altered every event in history. With schools closed and teaching taking place online, teachers’ day could not be celebrated in the usual manner.

We conducted a prayer service in school for the teachers and implored the Almighty to shower on them His choicest blessing. We thanked the Lord for having blessed us with wonderful and dedicated teachers who teach not just from the book but from the heart. Each teacher received a gift as a token of our love. The Manager, Sr. Priscilla Travasso spoke to our teachers expressing her appreciation and gratitude to each of them, for despite the lockdown, the teachers braved all odds and mastered the art of teaching online. She thanked them for being a part of our Auxilium family and helping us carry out our mission.  She also congratulated our Principal, Sr. Philomena Lobo, for having successfully lead us through these unprecedented times, keeping abreast with technology and new innovations in teaching. She quoted Scott Hayden saying “Teachers have three loves: love of learning, love of learners, and the love of bringing the first two loves together.” The teachers took many a lesson home.

The students of Auxilium Convent Baroda, decided to give their sisters and teachers the honour they deserve. With the help of video makers and other video apps, the students created videos and photo albums to wish the teachers. Each class prepared a short programme expressing their appreciation and love for their teachers. Though it has become distance learning yet, it has made a difference in the life of the students. It was very touching to hear the students express their sentiments through speeches and songs. Not only did the students perform their act professional but also seemed adept in the use of technology.

Someone has very rightly defined the art of teaching by saying that a teacher takes a hand, opens a mind, touches a heart and shapes the future.

Kudos to all who have chosen this noble profession!
