AMAR # 1275 Workers’ Day at Auxilium Baroda!

Martin Luther Junior has rightly said, “No work is insignificant. All labour that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.” One can hardly deny or downplay the role of workers in our institutions. They are not merely workers but members of our family. In appreciation of our helpers and support staff, we, at Auxilium Convent High School, Baroda, celebrated Workers’ Day on the Saturday, 12th September, 2020.

The air was thick with excitement as the sisters and our workers, numbering 26 in all, gathered in the premises of the Convent. The celebration commenced in the evening at around half past four. We thanked the Lord for having blest us with a staff so hardworking, dedicated and industrious. We implored God’s graces and blessings on each of them and their families.

Having invited God to be a part of our celebration, it was time to shake a leg and flex our muscles. Our workers participated in various games such as ‘Bombing the city’, ‘Monster feet’, ‘Eating the cookie’, Towel and ball game, etc. The convent roared with laughter and cheers. All tried to vie with each other for the first place. The workers seemed tapping their feet and some grooving to popular Gujarati songs that blared from the speakers. Energy levels seemed to soar high and as the enthusiasm increased, the sun decided to set a little too early. Time flew and it was nearing 6 p.m. Having distributed the snacks and gifts to all and the prizes to the winners, Sr. Priscilla Travasso, gave them a short message, thanking them profusely for their dedication, readiness in undertaking any task and their selfless service to our institution. She reminded them that they weren’t merely workers but part of our family. She exhorted them to work with a purpose in mind, bringing meaning into their work and doing everything with an extraordinary love.

Despite it being time to leave, the workers didn’t seem like they wanted to go home for they felt at home here with us. Mr. Dashrath on behalf of them all thanked all the sisters. Dance, being a part of every culture and celebration, it was but fitting to conclude the programme with Garba as they enjoyed dancing to the tune of ‘Timli.’ The sisters too, joined in as all danced in a circular motion in sync with the beats that boomed from the speakers.

In conclusion one can say, ‘A worker is a creator and a great asset to every institution.’
