AMAR # 338 Laura Vicuna in Dakor

The feast of Bl. Laura Vicuna was meaningfully celebrated in Pushpanjali Dakor. Laura Vicuna is a model for young people in this modern world. We prepared our boarding girls spiritually to celebrate the feast of Bl. Laura Vicuna.

On 20th we viewed the life of Laura Vicuna for which we had discussion in the value education classes.  Children beautifully brought out the values of Bl. Laura Vicuna. On the 21st of January, an interesting activity was organized. It was ‘an hour of Laura Vicuna’ where for an hour children were free to act as Laura Vicuna was, be it in the relationship with Jesus, while fulfilling her responsibilities, in the garden, on the play ground, while studies, making sacrifices and the like. It brought lot of joy and satisfaction to the children.

On the following day, the celebration began with a solemn and meaningful Eucharistic celebration presided by Rev. Fr. Isaac Arackaparambil (SDB). The introduction highlighted the virtues of Laura Vicuna especially those of obedience, holiness, purity, love for God, generosity and her sacrifices. Bl. Laura Vicuna possessed the virtue of Purity. Being a teenager she was able to observe this virtue in a significant and strict approach to life knowing it at so young age. In a spiritual point of view she was mindful that the body is sacred and we should respect it. The boarders enacted in their respective groups, different aspects of her life depicting her virtues. We also declared the ‘Laura Vicuna’ among the boarders. Sr. Sunanda Solanki, the animator inspired us to live a pure and upright life. We may teach someone by what we say, but we teach above all by the personal witness of life, and yes the life of Bl. Laura Vicuna has convinced the children to change and modify their behavior.  The shining example of Bl. Laura Vicuna is a help for young people of today who are often discouraged, disappointed, dissatisfied, uncomfortable, who have lost meaning in life to understand clearly the value and the meaning of life.

In the evening Agarva village celebrated their chapel feast of Our Lady of the Forsaken. Fr. Isaac enlightened the villagers about the life of Bl. Laura Vicuna who sacrificed her life for her dearest astray mother. Bl. Laura Vicuna’s portrait was well decorated which helped the villagers to appreciate her life and also carry out in their lives the virtues she imbibed.
