AMAR # 442 Summer Splash at Aux- Carona

The young people experienced a home that welcomes activities where life lessons are learned, a playground for making new friends and the presence of Sisters that helps them grow in relationship with God and others. The campus of Auxilium, Carona was bubbling with joy and laughter.

The Summer Splash began on 17th April 2018 at 9.30 am with the inaugural ceremony. In the inaugural address Sr. Antonita D’souza wished them a good experience of learning and living in togetherness.   Despite the searing summer temperature the summer splash saw great participation of around 110 children from ages 7 – 20 years.

Every morning, between 9.00 to 12.30 the young were entertained with a range of activities including art and craft, flower making, cooking, best out of waste, etc. Resource persons were invited who gave them excellent presentations on information of snakes and how to respond when confronted with a snake in an emergency. They enjoyed handling non-poisonous snakes and overcoming their fear. Facilitators also spoke about social media and warned them of its ill effects and dangers. Children and youth were also informed about preservation of the environment and the role they could play.

Equipment and facilities were made available for plenty of games throughout the ‘summer splash’ – football, badminton, carom, table tennis, skipping, Frisbee, tennicoit, etc. There were daily group activities organized like water games, paper games, ball games, dance and singing competitions, presentations brought out the very best in these young people.  A whole afternoon was spent in a treasure hunt where volunteers accompanied the groups of children and youth well beyond the school premises. The young ones thoroughly enjoyed the fancy dress competition, dressing up as air hostess, nurse, a drop of water, a unicorn. Football players etc. A picnic to Vagator beach was the highlight of the summer club, where children frolicked on the sand and in the water, building castles, playing games and sharing food and snacks.  The hot sun was not a deterrent to the fun the children had.   Celebration of Mother General’s feast and moments of prayer helped them to build a closer rapport with God. Many joined the Summer Splash as strangers but ended up becoming friends for life.

The summer club concluded on 2 May with the prize distribution. The superior Sr. Flavia  Mascarenhas addressed the children and thanked the volunteers for their dedicated service .

The credit for the huge success of the camp this year goes to the Sisters, the volunteers as well as the staff of Auxilium Primary School.
