AMAR # 716 SIGNIS Western Region Assembly in Goa

The SIGNIS Western Region Assembly was held from 25th January to 27th January 2019 at the Centre Old Goa.

The word ‘SIGNIS’ is derived from two Latin words, ‘Signum’ (meaning Sign) and ‘Ignis’ (meaning Fire). SIGNIS INDIA is the Indian Chapter of SIGNIS WORLD. It is recognized by the Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI). It has twelve Regions, as delineated by the CBCI, with about 350 Active Members. Each Regional SIGNIS Unit has its own administrative structure.

The meeting began in the evening with the Eucharist followed by the welcome address by Fr. Olavo Caiado the Vice-President. The participants were Sr. Joeyanna DSP, Sr. Sukuria SFN, Fr. Olavo Caiado (Incharge of Social Communications in the Diocese of Goa and Daman, Fr. Ashok Vaghela SJ (Incharge of Gurjarvani Parivar, a culture and communication centre in Ahmedabad), Fr. Joaquim Lobo SDB, Sr. Rita DSP, Ms. Janet Barcellos and Sr. Lavita Sequeira FMA.

The next day Mr. Melvyn Misquitta, the editor for ‘The Goan’-the newspaper was invited to enlighten about fake news, and on Social Media-relation and response. Further, there were elections held for the executive committee President – Fr Olavo Caiado, Vice- President Fr. Ashok Vaghela, Secretary-Treasurer Sr. Sukuria SFN and one Project screening member Sr. Rita DSP. The last day was concluded with a thanksgiving Eucharist.
