Aux- Lonavla celebrates Girl Child Day!

The birthday of Mary our Mother and the Girl Child day were celebrated in the school. There were special guests invited who graced the occasion. The guests were Mrs. Surekha Jadhav, the president of Lonavla Muncipal Council, Mrs.Jayashree Ahaer,the Councillor and Mrs. Uma Mehta,the ex-president of Lions’ Club Lonavla. Sr. Sheela Furtado,the headmistress solemnly carried the statue of Mother Mary and was accompanied by our three dignitaries, and also by Sr. Josephine Fernandes and Tr. Rebecca John, the school supervisor. The statue was reverently placed on the pedestal and honoured. The guests were taken on stage and were introduced. The traditional lamp was lit and they were formally felicitated. The prayer service that followed was based on Mary whose birthday was commemorated. The programme consisted of song, skit and dance, highlighting the theme of the importance of the girl child. Many realities of the condition of the girl child were highlighted all through the programme. The students interviewed the dignitaries in a panel discussion. They all spoke of empowerment of the girl child and exhorted the students to be courageous to stand up for their rights in the society.Sr. Sheela thanked the dignitaries for their presence. Later a cake was cut in honour of Mother Mary’s birthday. The celebrations surely brought blessings on the school from our Blessed Mother.
