OROS EMPOWERS CHILDREN FOR THE BETTER SOCIETY!

The long awaited children’s day came together with the World day of poor on November 19, 2017. Lot of hard work for weeks were put together by many hands. The theme for the celebration was “Empowering the children for the better society”.  The day began with the holy Eucharist for the catholic children, organizers and volunteers. Fr. Joaquim Lobo was the main celebrant for the Eucharist.  Fr. Lobo in his homily gave a simple and beautiful message, on who is poor for each one of us. He made each one reflect on who is poor for us and are we generously using our God given talents for the welfare of the other and the poor especially the needy and the marginalised.

            The other Children from various villages (far and near) came for the celebration by nine in the morning. Around two hundred and seventy children made their mark at the Auxilium centre. All the participants were provided with snacks and refreshments. Various creative fete games were organised for them in different stalls. The children whole heartedly enjoyed playing. The stalls were managed by the Pre-novices of Pinguli, Youth of Don Bosco Parish, Community College girls and the volunteers from “Emmaus disciples” community who were present for the day.  

Inaugural ceremony began at 11:40 am. Mr. Ramchandra Nare was the chief guest for the function. Mrs. Sandhya Parab (Sarpanch), Miss Rachael (Emmaus disciple Leader) Mr. Shekhar Samant (Tarun Bharat – Editor) Fr. Albano (Principal of Junior College and Assistant Parish Priest) and Mr. Nare’s family members and friends graced the occasion with their valuable presence. Mr. Nare in his speech emphasised to grow as good and honest human beings that in future the society will remember forever. With example of candle he highlighted the point of sacrifice.  He concluded his speech with the old Marathi song of man and god’s relationship. Sr. Vandana Malya gave an input session on the child rights.  It was more of an interactive session. Sr. Malya made children aware about their rights which will be of great help for them in life.

At 1.00 pm, lunch was served and it was sponsored by Mr. Anand Sawant, (renowned person of Oros). Children enjoyed the food to the full; it was well prepared and tasty. After having recreation for a while after the lunch, there was group dance competition organised as the part of entertainment program. The group had practiced dances and came prepared with their intricate hairstyle and colourful costumes. There were also spot prizes in between the dance competition. The children were also bifurcated in various groups for the group games which they enjoyed to the brim.  Towards the end of the celebration the prizes for the winners were given by Sr. Priscilla Travasso, animator of Auxilium community. Sr. Priscilla, with the help of a story made the children realise that each one of them is precious and loved by God. She also thanked the youth and volunteers for their valuable contribution.The youth and volunteers surprised everybody with their stunning dance performance at the end. 

Miss. Sneha Sutar one of the participants thanked each and every one who were behind this event to make it a success. The gifts to all were sponsored by Mrs. Jigisha Lulla. As the children left for home, they not only carried sweet packet and prizes won but also joys and memories for life. Even the youth who volunteered experienced the joy in giving their time and energy for the poor village children.

It was an event where many hands came forward to help which became not only successful but a memorable for all present.
