The feast of our teenage saint Bl. Laura Vicuna was celebrated with much love and fervour in the community as well as in school. It was a twin celebration since it was also the 80th birthday of Sr. Annette Nellianil, a member of the community of Laura Vicuna Niwas.
Sr. Annette together with her relatives and the Sisters of the community were escorted in a grand procession towards the school ground. The programme began with a prayer moment followed by a prayer dance and a skit on the life of Laura Vicuna, after which Sr. Annette was felicitated and birthday wishes were conveyed to her through blessing songs, hymns, cards, flowers, and gifts. ‘Blossomed for God’s glory’ was the underlining message that was conveyed through these two celebrations.
Laura’s life was a life of love, mortification, and sacrifice and she stands as a model for everyone, especially the youth, encouraging them to say ‘no’ to sin and ‘yes’ to virtue. Sr. Annette’s 80 glorious years of life and of loving fidelity in God’s service also stands as an inspiration to us, portraying the joy of someone who has given up everything to follow the Master.
