The two-day SZC of Salesian Co-operators on the theme, “Good Christians and Upright Citizens”, hosted by the Trichy Province at Don Bosco, Manikandam on 12-13 January 2020 commenced with a prayer service followed by the hoisting of the Salesian Co-operators flag by the newly appointed Provincial of Trichy, Fr. Agilan. The inaugural ceremony started with a prayer dance and the lighting of the traditional Indian lamp. The host Province felicitated all the Delegates and Co-ordinators with a shawl.
Fr. Provincial welcomed us, and in his talk expressed his hope that this conference would give us more clarity to reach the common goal and renewal of our mission. Fr. Albert Johnson, National Delegate for the Salesian Family, gave an impressive talk on the Identity of the Salesian Co-operators based on the theme. Mr. D.S. Antuvan, World Councilor for Salesian Co-operators – South Asia region, spoke on “Influencing and Challenging Areas of Salesian Co-operators in the Society”. He pointed out that since most of the S. Co-operators are in the academic field, we can really make an impact in the society. Fr. Thomas Louis, the INT Salesian Family Delegate, wished that working as one family and one mission we can disseminate the charism of Don Bosco for the salvation of the young. Sr. Margaret Amalanathan, Provincial of Trichy highlighted through a PPt that “Salesian Co-operators are co-responsible in the salvation of the young”, referring to the thoughts and vision of Don Bosco for his Co-operators. All the South Zone provinces gave a short report on the various activities carried out by them in their provinces. The group discussion was competently moderated by Fr. Mariadoss SDB, the Delegate of Trichy province, and the following suggestions were taken as Action Plan: To concentrate on the Family Ministry, and to involve in social issues at local level, and in Parish activities with the Youth.
The Conference drew to a close with Trichy Darshan.
