AMAR # 1388 Orientation day at Mazzarello Kendra, Kasarkod

“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn” said Benjamin Franklin.The involvement of the mind, body and heart is what matters a lot in teaching and learning experience. This indeed was the motivating factor for all of us at Mazzarello Kendra Kasarkod, as we had the orientation for all the teaching staff on 28th June 2021. The event commenced at 10.00 a.m. with the moment of prayer and then a warm welcome was extended to the new staff of our centre.

 The introductory session was given by Sr. Angeline Fernandes on the topic of being educators of the heart to touch the lives of many youngsters, following the basic principles of preventive system, the core aspect of our Salesian educational system. She also emphasized on the core qualities of an educator and motivated the teachers to be open and flexible to get adjusted to the experience of teaching and learning digitally during this time of pandemic.

After a moment of refreshment and warm up activities, another session was delivered by Sr. Rita D’Souza, on the topic, “Holistic development and well-being of learners through a Life Skill approach” The resource person stressed on saying, living in this new normal is very challenging and the children are the most vulnerable ones to face variety of challenges and this is where the well-being of the learner is at stake. She also explained in detail the ten core life skills or also called as 21st century skills with the concrete examples and activities. The session ended with the motivational video and a quote of being educators not only of the mind but of the heart.

Thus the orientation programme ended with the vote of thanks and everyone dispersed happily, receiving enriching insights, resolving to implement the learning in our education.
