AMAR # 771 Inter-Faith week at Maria Sharan, Keshnand

On 2nd March till 7th March, we celebrated Interfaith week for our inmates of Maria Sharan Shelter home at Keshnand. We began the week celebration by viewing film Dharma. It was an inspiring film to understand the difference between spirituality and religiosity. Each day we took up the study on one particular religion. We read the history from the book and video talk was screened. And each day we pray for the people belonging to the particular religion by reading their scripture and intoning their religious songs. The religions that we study were Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, and Judaism.

The outcome of the celebration:  Through film Dharma, we became aware of the difference between spirituality and religiosity.

Religiosity                                           Spirituality

Rituals                                               Values

Fundamentalism                           Scientific temper

Divides                                                 Unites

Uniformity                                           Pluralism

Through the study of each religion, we learnt the core value of each religion which teaches us to live in pluralistic India and the world at large by promoting peace, love,  justice, and fraternity in each human being which is belonging to different religion, caste, culture, language, and race.

Pluralistic spirituality is a vision of India. Pluralism is not tolerance of diversity but it is acceptance, appreciation, and promotion of difference. Pluralism is our National Heritage, a unique gift of God to India.

The core value of the different religions

  • The universal family spirit of
  • The discipline and fellowship of Islam
  • The compassion of Buddhism
  • The indomitability of Judaism
  • The self-sacrifice and forgiveness of Christianity
