Independence Day celebrations at Aux- Lonavla!

India’s 71st Independence day was celebrated with great joy and festivity in the school. It was also the feast of Mary’s Assumption and the first day of the Marian month. Mrs Sangeeta Pawar, Asst. teacher of the school was the chief guest. She brought in the statue of Mother Mary, accompanied by the manager, Sr. Josephine Fernandes and the headmistress, Sr. Sheela Furtado. Tricolour stoles were presented to them at the entrance to the hall. The statue was placed on a pedestal and the lamp was lit. Mrs. Sangeeta Pawar hoisted the flag which was then saluted and honoured by the collective singing of the National Anthem and Patriotic songs. Then followed an inter faith prayer service incorporating the themes of the Assumption and India’s Independence. Readings were taken from the Holy Bible, the Bhagvad Gita and the Koran. Speeches in English, Hindi and Marathi were delivered by students of various classes. Pictures of our freedom fighters were affixed on the backdrop along with tricoloured balloons. A dance cum skit was presented by students of STD X highlighting the role of our Indian Defence personnel and their sacrifices made to keep us all safe. The Chief Guest delivered her address speaking about Indian’s freedom and our responsibilities. Sr. Sheela also addressed the school and spoke about the meaning of freedom and the Marian month observance.

The programme concluded with the singing of Vande Mataram.
