AMAR # 1601 Women’s Day Celebration at Pansora

Jag Prakash Kanya Chatralaya celebrated International Women’s Day on 5th March with the theme “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, with the objective of creating awareness on gender equality for a healthy society, thereby fostering gender equality in every segment of society.  There were 350 women present for the programme. Mrs.Druvishaben Mistri, from Nari Adalat, Umreth Taluka, was the chief guest at the event. Guests of honour included Sr. Manisha Parmar, the Directress of Sahayini Development Office, Mumbai, Mrs. Kokilaben Jayesbhai Parmar, the Umreth Taluka Panchayat member and Kusumben Kristi, the Secretary of Thasara Taluka Women’s Cooperative Bank.

Mrs. Druvishaben Mistri spoke about women’s successes and increasing visibility, while calling out inequality in every sphere of life. She shared about violence against women today, as well as the importance of educating girls about their right to defend themselves and be cautious about the danger of crimes against women and children.   Furthermore, she said, “it’s time to acknowledge women’s accomplishments, and to focus greater attention on women’s rights and gender equality.” Sr. Manisha  Parmar discussed the importance of creating a supportive network within the family and community in order to achieve success. Mrs.  Kokilaben Parmar called on the women to be more consistent in their struggle against an unjust social system, which suppresses their rights.  She commended the Sisters for their efforts in creating awareness to society about gender issues and empowering women and children, which will ultimately lead to the overall development of the society and family.  Kusumben Kristi shared information about Women’s Cooperative Bank.     There were a variety of entertainment programme by women and a street play by a professional group that acknowledged and appreciated services provided by women today.  Sr. Nayana Vankar thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the event.
