Feast of the Assumption of Mary and Independence Day!

August 15th 2017 was a day of double celebration: the celebration of Mary’s Assumption into heaven and India’s 71st Independence Day. It being a day of obligation, we were preparing to go to the Parish for the celebration of the Eucharist when by a happy fault; Fr. Briston Britto Sdb arrived to celebrate Mass in our Chapel.  During the homily he spoke about the Freedom of Mary in making herself available to God’s plan of salvation through the Mystery of Incarnation. The Eucharist was made solemn with appropriate hymns and prayers. At breakfast we shared Marian reflections and the rest of the morning was spent in keep Court to Mary, taking turns to keep her company in Chapel with prayers and hymns. A special Marian prayer service was held in the evening around the beautifully decorated statue of Mary in our Community Room.Today is also India’s 71st anniversary of Independence. Yet we are aware that true freedom is lacking, especially to the poorest and the marginalized people, the minorities who are persecuted in some parts of our country.  During Morning Prayer and Mass, special prayers were offered for the country and its people.  After breakfast we went up to the terrace of our building and hoisted the national flag, singing the National Anthem. We also recited the pledge to treat all Indians as our brothers and sisters and work for the glory of our nation. Our prayer for India today is:  “Into that heaven of freedom my Father, let my Country awake”- Jai Hind!
